Treating Thyroid Disease During Pregnancy

Treating thyroid disease during pregnancy has been a challenge due to the different guidelines that have been published through the years. These guidelines are all different; plus, most doctors don’t follow the updated guidelines.

However, with that being said, The American Thyroid Association has released an updated guideline for treating thyroid disease during pregnancy.

Pediatric thyroid cancer is on the rise in the U.S. While the results suggest that the rise is due to better diagnostic practices, it’s also believed that thyroid cancer may be rising for those under age 20. The study also showed the majority of those affected where female and white.

The study also mentions that pediatric thyroid nodules where first mentioned in studies back in 2006 and have been on the rise ever since.
This increase is likely associated with changes in environmental risk factors as well as better diagnostics.
