There is a crazy disease out there that most of us have not heard of but is life changing non-the-less! The disease I am referring to is Graves’disease. It is one of the autoimmune thyroid diseases that messes with you and how your body functions. The most common autoimmune thyroid disease is Hashimoto’s disease. Just like most others with thyroid issues, your hair will most likely fall out, severe headaches are common, your fingernails are weak and won’t grow, you have aches and pains, plus your eyes are red and irritated. But, unlike hypothyroidism, where your body seems like it’s in slow motion, Graves’ causes hyperthyroidism, so your body feels like it’s going at high speed.
This crazy disease attacks your thyroid causing it to make more thyroid hormone than your body needs. Since thyroid hormone regulates all of your body functions, having more hormone than you need causes problems with weight loss, heart palpitations, diarrhea, shaky hands and muscle weakness. Not to mention, Graves’ disease can cause several issues with your eyes, including redness, gritty feelings and dryness, to name a few.
In this article, Helen Slelitis she shares what it’s like to have Graves’ disease and the challenges that come will managing the disease. She also included one woman’s story of living her life with Graves’. She tells how everyone thought she was crazy, but didn’t believe her thyroid could cause such serious physical and mental problems. You can read the full story here:
