The FDA continues to allow exposure of our children to dangerous chemicals in our plastic food packaging and in food handling equipment.
The chemical, perchlorate, a component of rocket fuel, disrupts the thyroid gland’s normal function and reduces production of the thyroid hormone needed for healthy fetal and child brain development.
Advocates for regulation of perchlorate in food are challenging the FDA’s May of 2017 decision to continue to allow this chemical in our food supply.
In the meantime, perchlorate in food continues to threaten children’s brains.
The FDA chose to ignore a previous study that revealed a stunning increase in young children’s mean dietary intake of perchlorate in 2008-2012 as compared to 2003-2006.
This study specifically showed the median dietary intake increased 34% for children 6 to 11 months; 23% for 2-year-olds; and 12% for 6-year-olds. Older children and adults did not show an increase, indicating that foods eaten by children six or younger had higher concentrations of perchlorate than foods favored by adults.

In another news story I ran across: A new study says a popular brand of dental floss has toxic chemicals in it. Researchers found women who used the Oral-B Glide floss ended up with high levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAs). Oral-B has denied those substances are in their dental floss.
