Unexplained weight loss can be a happy thing, unless you find out the reason is a health problem. Most of us have a few pounds we could lose, but of if you are looking at weight loss of more than 5% this could be pointing to a health problem. Now, no offense, but if I lost 5% of my body weight, (I am 5’3″ and weigh 125 lbs. FYI, I weighted 160 lbs at the height of my hypothyroidism, this was before I switched medications from Synthroid to Armour Thyroid.) I would be dancing in the streets. My calculations show that if I lost 5% it would equal 6.25 lbs. I am not sure that I would be alarmed if I lost that amount, unless there was other issues.

The reason I liked this article is due to the fact they admit if you have hypothyroidism, you most likely will have a weight problem until your hypothyroidism is under control. This view is in contrast with the major thyroid websites. They will tell you your weight gain is not due to your under active thyroid, a view I do not understand.
