Non-dairy milks are the rage now days, but are they the healthiest choice? I will be the first to admit I don’t drink non-dairy milk; I grew up on a dairy farm where milking the cows was a twice a day chore. I used to drink fresh, warm milk on my cereal every morning before school and my father never allowed anything but real butter in our house. I don’t drink warm milk anymore but we still use real butter. So, I am not the best person to judge non-dairy milk, but I have to acknowledge the fact that nut milk is very popular.

To help us understand the different milks that are available, Leslie Beck shares the McGill study, published last week in the Journal of Food Science and Technology, which pitted four milk alternatives – almond, rice, coconut and soy beverages – against whole cow’s milk to find out which one was the most nutritious replacement for dairy. Here is her report:
