Thyroid Gland Toxins and Treatments

Thyroid Gland

The thyroid gland resembles a factory which uses iodine in order to produce thyroid hormones that regulate the metabolism, promote growth and affect other important body functions. Its work can be influenced by other factors that may trigger different problems, specifically the instance of thyroid disease is working close to the epidemic in our country, and the most affected are women. If we minimize our exposure to toxic compounds we can reduce the risk of developing complications. Many of these compounds are common in our homes and we use them on regular basis and can affect our thyroid gland.

The biggest problem with these toxins is the fact that they are everywhere and added to everything we consume. Many of these added toxins are used to solve problelms. One of those widely used toxins is fluoride that is added to our water and used to prevent cavities. But, did you know that fluoride was used to treat hyperthyroidism the first half of the 20th century! So, ingesting fluoride when you already have poor thyroid function is just adding to the problem. The other problem I see is that fact that most healthcare providers aren’t aware of the issues that these toxins can cause. One example is my dentist, who offers a fluoride treatment everytime I get my teeth cleaned. Now, I understand being proactive when it comes to your health by wanting to prevent future health concerns, but many of the toxins that cause poor thyroid function are added to our food, our water, the products we use in our homes. Most of the time we are not even aware there could be a problem.  Plus, new research is showing how a mother’s poor thyroid function can cause developmental issues for their babies.

Here are the top seven toxins you should avoid and an easy recipe to boost your thyroid function.
