Underactive Thyroids in Infants

Underactive Thyroid

Infants with underactive thyroids are being reported after having medical imaging procedures. The dye is used so medical images are inhanced as in x-rays or CT scans. The babies that were affected with underactive thyroids have either serious medical conditions or were premature. The FDA believes that this rare occurrence is usually temporary and resolves without treatment or any lasting effects. However, the FDA has approved label changes sharing this information but no changes in use of this contrast dye. Please share this information with new parents.
